Outsourcing for companies from small to large has revolutionized the way business is accomplished in the world. You can hire out just about anything you need done. But we have adopted this concept into the church and therefore the biblical model of who we are as Christians has radically changed. Do you outsource your faith? You may be surprised at what you find as you read*.*

I am a businessman working in a global economy. I am able to leverage both talent and resources from different locations around the world to accomplish what I need done for my company. There are certain core values and business ideals that I want to engage in for myself to benefit my company.

But there are certain peripherals that I want someone else to do. These are tasks that:

  • I don’t want to do
  • I don’t have the correct expertise for
  • I don’t need to spend my time doing

Therefore, the core objective of my business I will do but the things that are required to run my company outside of the scope of my role, I can hire other people to do. This is the incredible story of outsourcing. On a global scale, most viable corporations are experiencing and taking advantage of this paradigm. In the world’s business economy, we have embraced outsourcing.

But as so often has occurred in the past 50+ years in the western church, we have imported this concept into this religion called Christianity.

For example, my Bible reading and study is outsourced to my pastor.

My responsibility to disciple my children is outsourced to the children or youth pastor.

My worship, expression, and admiration of God is outsourced to the worship leader.

My ministry and testimony of who am I to be in the community is outsourced to the benevolence or missions committee.

Outsourcing in Christianity is where I as an individual can have someone else do the spiritual tasks that:

  • I don’t want to do
  • I don’t have the correct expertise for
  • I don’t need to spend my time doing

For 10% of my money and 90 minutes a week of attendance, others can take care of my Christian duties. This is all that is demanded of me. As long as I do these things, I’m Heaven bound, because several years ago, I stood up in a crowd and I said I accepted Jesus Christ.

All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ (Matthew 25:32-45 NIV)
